I thank god for my sister, who told me that my daughter's hair ends needs to be trimmed, a question was asked, When was the last time I trimmed her ends? What a shame and disgrace I could not tell her that last time I trimmed her hair, it was that long ago, it just disgusted me!

Trimming your hair is not something that many of us think about most of the time, well I don't often think about doing it as much as I should.

So I have included this in my regime, so I wont forget to do this.

Why is trimming your ends important? How often should I trim my hair ends?

Trimming your hair should form a good part of your hair routine, it helps the improvement in the health of your hair and it helps promote hair growth.  It also helps the hair from splitting more and creating more damage to your strands.

It has been suggested that hair trimming should be done 6-12 weeks depending on the length of your hair, if you notice more breakage or split ends it can be cut 6-8 weeks.  Know your hair and know when your hair is due for a tim, you may be the lucky one;s that do not need their hair trimmed for a long period of time, but I always say do what yo think is necessary!

There are several different methods to conduct this task and you do not need to always take a trip to the hairdressers to help take care of your split ends, you are saving lots of money doing this at home.

Tools Needed

You need to invest in a good pair of hair shears and only us this to cut your split ends, do not use any scissors in your hair, as this was create more damage to your split ends and you do not want that to happen.  You can purchase a good one from any hair shop for the cost of £2.99.

Your hands is the best tool to help find your split ends!

Method 1- Cutting Perpendicular Way

It has been advisable that if you have dark hair it would be better to trim your ends in a light background cutting at around 1/4 above the split ends, you want to ensure that you have covered all the split ends in you hair.. In order to obtain stronger ends it has been advised to cut the hair at a perpendicular angle rather than a slanted cut.

Method 2 - Dusking

This method is one that we use most of the time and it entails taking a small section of your hair and twisting it, this will allow you to see where you need to trim the spit ends, just cut and do this method to the rest of your hair

You then untwist and place your fingers over the top of your sectioned hair and weave through your hair sliding your fingers down the section near to the end, you should see where else you need to trim off your ends.

Method 3 - Trimming

This method can be done on wet hair, just wash your hair and apply your leave in conditioner, make sure you detangle your hair very well and try not to disturb your ends, separate your hair into sections and just place your two fingers at the end of the hair firmly, and then trim.

Remember

In order to maintain healthy ends you will need to moisturise your hair often, the main cause of split ends is lack of moisturised hair, your ends needs to be conditioned more than your scalp as this is the oldest part of your hair, look after me and I will look after you!

Seal in that moisture use products like Shea butter, coconut oil and or olive oil to help seal in your moisture.  Check out my previous post on

Protect your ends by doing protective styles where your ends are kept moisturised and tucked away, or you can place your hair in a bun to hide your ends.  Do styles that has less manipulation to your hair, this will cause less breakage and keep your ends nice and moist and from drying out getting damaged.

Avoid using any heat in your hair as this aids to split ends, if you need to use heat use a hair dryer on a low heat or let your hair air dry this is much better for your hair.

Do deep condition your hair to help aid moisture back into your strands and it will keep your ends nice, soft and moist too.

I hope this has helped you and thank you for reading my page. How often do you trim your ends?
