Autumn is approaching us fast and faster than you know it! So now summer is ending we need to plan, prep and prepare on how to maintain a nice healthy and moist hair. As many of us know our natural hair does not hold up well in the cold winter months approaching ahead, why? The humidity in the air drops and causing moisture to be pulled from your hair, which is why we may experience dryness.  I would suggest changing your hair products that you use in the summer months and research products that will help you to keep that moisture in your hair.  I have conducted some helpful tips that wil help to combat dryness and help to retain that moisture in your hair.

One

Deep Condition

We are in the most unpredictable month where we have no clue on what to wear, whether it will rain or not, we just know it is signs of coldness approaching. So many of us may already have our heating on at home and work will have heating on, but did you know that the heat will dry out your hair, so this is how you can avoid dryness to your strands.  Do deep condition your hair once a week after you have co-washed or shampooed your hair it really is up to you what way you choose to wash your hair. You can conduct a hot oil treatment check out my post click here

Two

Moisturiser

Chosing a good moisturiers makes all the difference to your hair, a good moisturiser will nourish your hair well by pentrating deep into the hair shaft. Leave in conditioners and moisturisers that has aqua as the first ingredient is necessary many prefer to use a much heavier leave in conditioner to help keep the hair moisturised, but again this is down to preference.

Do conduct the LOC or the LOCO method to help seal in the moisture and do wear more protective hair styles to help keep the mositure locked in.

You can check out my post on the LOC Method click here

Three

Heavier Sealants

Have you considered using a thicker natural oil to help seal your hair, you can use sealants like avocado oil or castor oil which are heavier oils.  Jojoba oil is great for your hair as it is an oil closest to your natural hair sebum, although it is not a thick oil it is great for dry scalp conditions that you may have.

Four

Take cover

While wearing protective hair styles to sheild our ends from the elements of outside and wearing a satin bonnet or scarf to protect our hair at night, have you considered what to wear on your head whilst being outside in the cold.

You can purchase hats that are lined with satin or you can wear a satin scarf underneath your wooly hat to avoid any breakage to your hair from the constant rubbing and snagging against the wool and cotton hat.  If you are good with sewing then go ahead and creating a sating lining in your exiting hats that we all have ontop of our wardorbes, and plenty of them that we have to choose from.

Five

Avoid proctects with Humectants

Products that has humectants such as honey and gycerin are ingredients that draws moisture out of the air into your hair which are ingredients to use in the summer months, but in cooler months humectants does the reverse and will dry your hair out more, do check the labels when buying your products for ingredients that has humectants in it and avoid like the plague.

I hope this has help you do start to create a regime of your winter months
